3 Body Positivity Influencers

Body positivity as a concept celebrates every body type. It asserts that every person deserves to have a positive body image, regardless of how society and popular culture view ideal shape, size, and appearance. Not just that, it also condemns judgments that are often made based on race, gender, sexuality, and disability.

It encourages us to have a better relationship with our own bodies and appreciate them.

It started out with fat-shaming, which is a deep rooted and personal issue faced by many individuals in the society, primarily females. Body positivity has its roots in the fat acceptance movement of the late 1960s which focused on ending fat-shaming and discrimination based on size or body weight.

Body positivity can mean :

  • Accepting and appreciating your body’s shape and size
  • Enjoying the body you have as a gift despite of any flaws
  • Feeling confident in your own skin
  • Simply loving yourself

Over the years, Instagram has played a key role in promoting many social issues. It has given many individuals the confidence to put themselves out there for the world to see.

Body positivity as a concept has been appreciated and shared as a common ideal by people across the platforms. This cultural shift right in by social media has also transformed the way print publications like fashion and lifestyle magazines look at individuals.
